WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

🌊 The City has launched an Ottawa River Flood page. It’s a central point of access for what to do, who to call, and where find help for people at risk of flooding. Ottawa Spring Flooding Page

↪ Road, park, and pathway closures are here

↪The live current conditions map of the river is here

↪The City of Gatineau says nearly 120 buildings are at risk of flooding

✒️ It turns out that the Federal government may be short of office space now. After years of selling off buildings, a new report by Public Services and Procurement Canada finds that will be short of work stations when employees return to office four days per week in July. – Estelle Côté-Sroka at CBC

🏒 Elgin Street is officially the Sens Mile now that the team is in the playoffs for the Stanley Cup. The following is a direct quote from the City’s Instagram: ‘There’s no Reimer reason you can’t Ulmark your calendar to Tkachuk out a spot downtown and be Cozens up with other @senators fans to watch the game. It’s the Zuuuubperior way to enjoy playoff hockey.’ It’s time everyone – get on the bandwagon.– City of Ottawa Instagram

↪ The 67s are fighting to stay in the Ontario Hockey League playoffs tomorrow against the Barrie Colts. A Colts win will knock out the 67s.

↪ There is one slot left for the Walter Cup in the Professional Women’s Hockey League playoffs and the Ottawa Charge have only three matches left to grab it.

🤡 Beware of clowns in Almonte this week. Crews are closing streets and buildings this week to film a movie with the code name ‘Killer Clown’ or ‘The Clown Movie’. THE OTTAWAN has no idea if this is the remake of the 1988 film Killer Klowns from Outer Space that Ryan Gosling is attached to. – Olivia Barratt at Inside Ottawa Valley

🚌 The spring service changes of OC Transpo start on Sunday. If you take transit regularly, you should check out the OC Transpo Service Planner as most of the changes are reductions in service. – City of Ottawa

🛒 Every week, @stromanker reads all the local grocery flyers and posts the deals on Ottawa Reddit. This week, he highlights beef (barded roast) ($6.87/lb at Super C), eggs ($4.99/18 pack at Sobeys), and ground beef ($4.99/lb at Provigo). – /Ottawa

THE DAILY POLL

Is Premier Ford right, should Ottawa install speed bumps in school zones to quiet traffic?

🔘 Yes

🔘 No

🔘 I find that solution too simple, there must be other factors being ignored

🔘 Speed bumps are annoying and possibly damaging to vehicles, it’s a band-aid at best

🔘 Agreeing with Doug Ford is infuriating, and has ruined my weekend

Previously in ottawan polls:

  • We asked, ‘Have you changed your snow tires yet’

    • 25% Yes

    • 35% No

    • 10% I waited too long to book and I’ll have winter tires as I drive by the tulips

    • 26% I take transit/walk/bike and don’t take part in that biannual ritual of pain

    • 4% We’re going to have another dump of snow, I know it. I’ll be driving pretty while you’re stuck on the curb

    • Commentary

▪️ “April 20th booked for the change over.”

▪️ “Took the snow tires off the bike last week!”

▪️ “Not worried about more snow, but it keeps getting cold. My tires are for ice, not snow.”

▪️ “Changed to rain tires last Friday.”

▪️ “I booked my appointment in February so I could have the day I wanted.”

▪️ “It’s not May yet.”

▪️ “Much easier to get a tire change appointment in rural Eastern Ontario. Just 7 days at Canadian Tire in Hawkesbury.”

▪️ “No but it is scheduled for next week.”

▪️ “Just one more reason to walk or bike to get around.”

▪️ “Car is literally in the shop as I type this ...”

▪️ “We changed ours over the weekend. We do it ourselves.”

▪️ “We will be very soon ... it’s been busy ... hahaha.”

▪️ “Unfortunately most garages are solidly booked until the 3rd week of April. Won’t be much longer now!”

▪️ “I changed them at the beginning of March.”

▪️ “Just this week!”

▪️ “It feels a little too soon to ask this question.”

▪️ “I wanted to wait a bit longer, but my husband wanted to change both cars tires the same week. I am keeping my winter boots in our mudroom though as I don't trust the weather ... LOL.”

▪️ “I don't have to drive often. And I park in a parking garage. I wanted to beat the rush.”

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

Last week’s successful Artemis II project can give part of the credit to the National Research Council’s Flight Research Laboratory, near the Ottawa International Airport.

The team there was responsible for testing the ‘Orion Flywheel’, a device that allowed the astronauts to perform rowing exercises and resistance workouts to hekp prevent muscle erosion.

To ensure that it worked in space, they simulated zero-gravity by making a series of steep dives in a business jet flying over Maniwaki, creating 20 seconds of weightlessness at a time.
