WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

🚨 The Special Investigations Unit finds ‘evidence of misconduct’ by Ottawa Police Service over failure to find body. A passing driver called 911 in January after noticing a car in a ditch on Bank Street near Morningside Avenue. Police responded, checked out the car and vicinity, and left. The next day, at the request of wife of the crashed car’s driver, police returned and found a body under the snow. The Unit does believe the driver died long before the first police check.  – CBC

🅿️ Converting sports fields into parking lots is one idea considered by the Department of Defence for parking problems at the Carling campus. Military and civilian staff have been upset at the lack of parking at the campus and the ticketing of cars by Military Police. Other ideas include increasing frequency of buses and building a a 1.5 kilometre sidewalk from the future Moodie O Train station. The sports fields being considered are used on site by the military, not the public.  – David Pugliese in the Ottawa Citizen

↪ The Treasury Board says the majority of Federal employees will have assigned seating as it shifts from booking shared spaces in advance. When this will happen is another matter.

👟 More than 16,800 people took part in Tamarack Race Weekend. Elvis Cheboi of Kenya had the best time in the men’s race at 2:09:22, Sweden’s Abeba Aregawi had the best time in the women’s race at 2:23:12.

Mayor Mark Sutcliffe ran the marathon at 4:00 am, before the official start. Sutcliffe didn’t announce his finishing time but he did raise $100,000 for the End Youth Homelessness in Ottawa by 2030 fund.  – Nathan Fung at CBC

📚 The City is looking to find another $18.5 million for Ādisōke due to construction delays. The joint Ottawa Public Library / Library and Archive Canada was supposed to open this summer, but now has no known opening date. Construction is estimated to be 85 per cent complete.  – Aedan Helmer in the Ottawa Citizen

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

Rob Attrell at the delightfully-named New Orléans blog has created a nearly 51 minute video on the redesign of the Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard overpass over Highway 174. It’s quite facinating.
