WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
💥 The National Capital Commission’s new East Wharf Platform will open this autumn. Located near Rideau Canal locks 1 to 8, the wooden stepped platform looks great for sunset lounging, but also has bike racks and access for kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards. – Ted Raymond at CTV East Wharf Platform page
↪ The Rideau River pedestrian bridge connecting Carleton University with Vincent Massey Park will remain open this winter. Surprising most people, the City closed it last winter as it had not planned any winter maintenance for it.
🏀 Ottawa’s professional basketball team, the BlackJacks, has been sold to an Australian outfit. Global Sports Fund Management Group bought the team from the Canadian Elite Basketball League itself for an undisclosed amount. Chief executive officer Justin Pascoe also owns top level Australian soccer club Newcastle Jets.

💸 Ottawa’s students’ unions are still refusing to take part in OC Transpo’s five per cent fare increase. OC Transpo had recommended a five per cent increase in the cost of the U-Passes issued to Carleton, University of Ottawa, Algonquin College, and Saint Paul University students and paid through student fees. However, the agency didn’t seem to notice that it had signed agreements with the four students’ unions limiting increases to 2.5 per cent. Regardless, the City’s Finance and Corporate Services committee recommended a budget that included fare rises up to 7.5 per cent last Tuesday. – Joanne Laucius in the Ottawa Citizen
🎾 Gabriela Dabrowski and her New Zealand partner Erin Routliffe are in the US Open women’s doubles final. The duo prevailed over Italian duo Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani 6-4, 6-3 yesterday. Tomorrow they meet Taylor Townsend of the United States and Katerina Siniakova of Czech Republic for the championship. – The Canadian Press

Commentary
▪️ “Wait until October! What’s this world coming to when there is Christmas stuff in the stores already??”
▪️ “Just a great spice mix for anytime.”
▪️ “Life goes by too fast as it is why does every season be rushed into before it gets here? Retail greediness!!! It’s all about making that almighty extra dollar!!”
▪️ “It’s funny to see pumpkin spice maligned in media (largely by men) but if this had been branded as ‘rum spice’ I guarantee men would be feral for it.”
▪️ “The real tragedy is the loss of the apple oat latte that tasted like an apple crisp. Fall is ruined.”
▪️ “Let apples have their moment!”
▪️ “Pumpkin spice ‘haters’ are really just liars who want to look cool and different.”
