WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
β’οΈ Kanata medical device manufacturer is giving up its nuclear licence. The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission says Best Theratronics is ridding itself of all its Cobalt 60 and Cesium 137 and will focus on medical devices that do not require radioactive material. The Commission had been chasing the company to put up a $1.8 million bond to be used if the company wound down without safely disposing of the radioactive items. – Campbell MacDiarmid at CBC
ποΈ The owner of the neglected Place Cartier shopping centre in Gatineau wants to rebuild the site as a city-within-a city. The Espace Canevas would raze everything – except the beloved former cinema building – to create a Parkdale Market-like centre, surrounded by various new residential and commercial buildings. – Anita Murray in the Ottawa Citizen
βοΈ La Francophonie will have its 2028 summit in Ottawa if Prime Minister Mark Carney has his way. The association of 90 French-speaking nations and governments meets every two years. Canada, Québec, and New Brunswick each hold separate membership in La Francophone, with Québec City and Monction each playing host to a summit in previous years. – Tonda MacCharles in the Toronto Star
π¦ The Review in Vankleek Hill has some photos of Hawkesbury firefighters rescuing a deer trapped on the ice on the Ottawa River. – ‘Deer rescued on Ottawa River’

Commentary
βͺοΈ “All done. Feeling rather smug.”
βͺοΈ “Normally I’m done by now, but we’re not really doing gifts this year. We’re going overseas, and aside from the odd souvenir, that’s the gift.”
βͺοΈ “Gifts are bought and most are wrapped. Just need stocking stuffers now. I always try to get it done early in case something happens, like illness. Also, the selection is a lot better the earlier you shop!!”
βͺοΈ “It's challenging to sneak things past my very observant and astute spouse, so I have to wait for the right time.”
βͺοΈ “Gave up Christmas present-giving/receiving years ago; everyone's enjoyment of Christmas increased significantly.”
βͺοΈ “I haven’t even started yet please send thoughts and prayers.”
βͺοΈ “I have a yearly Excel spreadsheet that I use with names and needed/already purchased and a per person budget that I (mostly) adhere to so this makes my Christmas shopping a little less stress-free.”
βͺοΈ “After trying and failing for many years, I finally managed to lock in everybody's presents over the Black Friday weekend!”βββ
