WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
|
📨 The trustees of the Ottawa Carleton District School Board have found themselves locked out of their emails. Last week, the Province installed Robert Plamondon as the supervisor of the District, replacing the Board, after concerns of ‘financial mismanagement’. While trustees don’t have any jobs to do at the moment, the lack of email means they are unable to communicate with parents. – Paula Tran in the Ottawa Citizen
🏠 The first office building in Ottawa to be converted into shelter space has opened. The former office building at 230 Queen St will house 140 single adults who are experiencing homelessness. While owned by the City, the three levels of ‘sleeping pods’ will be managed by the Catholic Centre for Immigrants. – City of Ottawa
🌊 Nominations are being solicited for Canada’s best splash pad. Sponsored by otherwise newsy website National Observer, all splash pads are in consideration as long as they are working and open to the public. Deadline is July 11. – Cloe Logan in the National Observer
💥 A vehicle has driven into a Baseline Road Beer Store. An elderly man was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Can you believe it's been nearly a year since we last mentioned this seemingly-only-in-Ottawa phenomenon. – The Ottawa Citizen

Do you agree with the Province replacing the Ottawa Carleton District School Board with a supervisor?

Previously in ottawan polls:
-
We asked, ‘Do you think Bluesfest should change its name?’
-
22% No, because blues is a hard sell but the crowdpleasing acts bring in patrons who may see the blues bands on the side stages
-
19% Yes, if it doesn't feature blues on the main stage, it is wrongly named
-
43% No, if we are that pedantic then CityFolk and the Jazz Festival would also need to rename themselves
-
16% Yes, and to be pedantic, CityFolk and the Jazz Festival also need to rename themselves

MADE IN CANADA DEALS OF THE DAY
|
-
When Martha and Darren lived in England, the guilty pleasure television show to which we always returned was Come Dine with Me. The premise is four stangers in the same town stage a dinner party each night for the others, with one of them winning £1,000 or something. The prize doesn’t matter, it was always about the characters (and sometimes about the food). One memorable UK episode involved the host ordering delivery from a local pub, which then handed her the dishes through her kitchen window while she attempted to pass it off as her own cooking (we didn’t say it was Masterpiece).
-
Now, Come Dine with Me Canada is seeking ‘amateur chefs in the Nation’s capital’ for its version on the Food Network.
-
If you’re interested, the deadline is July 25.
