✒️ The City has opened nominations for the next round of commemorative naming. Nominations will be taken of people, histories, and legacies that have helped shape Ottawa’s community for streets, parks, and City-owned amendities. The deadline is October 20. – City of Ottawa
↪ City council will vote October 23 on whether or not to change the name of Trump Avenue. Should it pass, a public consulation will be called upon to find a new name.
🦟 The first case of West Nile virus in a human has been recorded in Ottawa. Ottawa Public Health is asking people to take precautions against mosquitoes as this is the third case found in Eastern Ontario this year. – CBC

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...
As part of the the Pontiac Journal newspaper’s recent walk down memory lane, it has reminded readers of a stunt it performed in 1995. That year, of course, was the year of the most recent independence referendum in Québec. Somewhat tongue in cheek, and fearful of the séparatistes winning, the Journal advocated for the Pontiac region to secede from Québec itself as the Grand Duchy of Pontiac.
As Québec voted to stay within Canada, so did the Pontiac. You can see a photo of a Duchy bumper sticker on this old Facebook post.
