Whose flag is flying at City Hall today? None

City Hall flies the flag of embassies and high commissions on their national days.

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

🚨 The list of wards with the highest and lowest crime rates has been published. Somerset ward had the highest crime rate in 2025, at 15,589 crimes per 100,000 people. West Carleton had the least, with 1,371 per 100,000. – Josh Pringle at CTV

🚊O Train Line 1 and Line 4 to the airport was suspended on Saturdary due to a lack of staff. The president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 279, Noah Vineberg, says that OC Transpo has only 75 per cent of the required amount of operators, he noted that his union does not represent the operators, CUPE 5500 does. Service returned to normal on Sunday. – Nathan Fung at CBC

🚨 Road rage caused a 61 year-old man to be arrested on Highway 417 near Hunt Club Road. After a driver passed the man on the right-hand side, he – allegedly – drove the wrong way onto the ramp and attempted to slash a tire with a screwdriver. He was also charged with having an obstructed plate. – Josh Pringle at CTV

↪ Southway Towing Inc and one of its tow truck drivers is facing charges for towing a vehicle from a crash without the owner’s consent.

🗳️ Ottawa Civic Election

  • ‘Sutcliffe holds early lead in Ottawa mayoral race: poll’ – Sydney Ko in Ottawa Compass
  • ‘Candidates and hot-button issues: A 2026 municipal election primer’ – Aedan Helmer in the Ottawa Citizen

THE DAILY POLL

What do you think of onions?

🔘 Like Darren, I think they are the devil’s vegetable and ruin everything they touch

🔘 Love them, they are the base of all good cooking

🔘 Cooked, grilled especially, they are delicious but not a fan of raw

🔘 Nothing is more heartbreaking than ordering a sandwich and finding onions mixed in. Nothing.

🔘 What’s the deal, OTTAWAN? Did Big Onion not make your payola payment this month?

  • Previously in OTTAWAN polls:

  • We asked ‘What are your plans this long weekend?’

    • 7% Relax and do nothing at all

    • 53% I have a long list of tasks that I can finally get to

    • 21% I’m going out: a restaurant, out of town, see friends, etc.

    • 15% Nothing whatsoever will change with me, long weekend or not

    • 4% I’ll be lying back and thinking of England, wearing nothing but black, and, if I have time, choosing national capitals almost at random

      Commentary

▪️ “My wife and I will be spending our 45th at the Ord Valley Muster in Kununarra, Australia.”

▪️ “I’ve managed to unlock the ‘everyday is Saturday’ achievement. What can I say, the stock market in 2020 was a generational wealth event.”

▪️ “Ahhh! The arrival of the first looooooong weekend of spring/summer is very welcome for all those who have been awaiting this with bated breath and freezing toes!”

▪️ “Tulip Festival tomorrow.”

▪️ “Alas, I am working all weekend. I’ll try for a nice long walk, though.”

▪️ “We’re retired. This weekend means our normal Monday will be restricted due to closures. Let’s hope for sunny and warm, not ready for HOT yet, but will test AC.”

▪️ “Really we are at the cottage. Traditional. We live in a condo so happy to be here checking out our gardens!”

▪️ “Typically this long weekend signals the unofficial start of summer with nicer weather. Get outdoors and enjoy it even if you putter around.”

▪️ “My favourite long weekend. We take Friday off and go to the Parkdale Market. We buy our flowers, herbs and vegetables. We used to start the day with breakfast at the Carleton Tavern but the new owners don’t serve breakfast.”
