WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
🦠 Visitors to two churches have been warned of possible measles contacts. Five people who have tested positive for measles visited either St Clement Parish at Saint Anne Church, 528 Old St. Patrick Street, on October 12 and St George’s Parish at 415 Piccadilly Avenue between September 28 to October 2.
Ottawa Public Health advises anyone who visited the churches at those times to monitor themselves for symptoms for 21 days. Ten people have been reported to contract measles in Ottawa so far this year. — Josh Pringle at CTV
💸 Lansdowne 1.0 lost $11.1 million last year, $1.9 more than the losses during the previous fiscal year. The City and Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group have a 40 year partnership to pay for the 1.0 renovation 10 years ago but no payments have ever been made. The partnership blames poor performance by the Ottawa Redblacks and Ottawa 67’s in part for the loss. – Arthur White-Crummey at CBC
↪ City staff are recommending that the hotel tax be raised from five to six per cent to provide funds to Lansdowne 2.0. The first five per cent of the tax currently goes to Ottawa Tourism to promote and grow tourism. The one per cent increase is expected to raise $5 million per year, of which $2 million would go to Lansdowne 2.0 and $3 million to ‘fund tourism infrastructure’.
🖊️ A co-working space in Gatineau that opened at the behest of the Federal Government has closed after six months. The Federal government has canceled its $13.8 million contract with LAUFT, which says it is still on the hook for $2.5 million. – Matteo Cimellaro in the Ottawa Citizen
📹 The Ottawa Carleton District School Board will now allow recording of committee meetings – but not live streaming. While board meetings no longer occur as the province replaced the board with a supervisor, Bob Plamondon, provincial law requires certain parent commitees still meet.
Earlier in the month, the Special Education Advisory Committee was thrown into turmoil when a parent attempted to live stream the meeting with her smartphone. She was eventually permitted to do so.
Implied, but not mentioned in the article is that recordings can be made public for viewing after the meeting – they just can’t be live.

THE DAILY POLL
Are you still working remotely?
▪️ “Those damn raccoons like to leave us a "present" on the backyard deck a few times a week.”
▪️ “The real answer is humans.”
▪️ “I was looking for mice and rats. Our neighbours insist on putting out a birdfeeder and it is attracting them. Even though we are in a condo that says no feeders. People don’t realize what happens when the birdseed falls to the ground!”
▪️ “I’d actually have included mice 🐁 the little dears! I said skunks cause I have a dog and oh my goodness that can truly be a disaster!”
▪️ “They chewed into a wooden shed that I had when I lived in southern Ontario and then had babies in the attic portion of the shed.”
▪️ “Wow and rats weren’t on your list?! I live near the Perley Health and I watch everyday people feeding birdseed to the ducks in the pond and watch 5-6 rats congregate and start fighting over the seed.”
▪️ “Raccoons are trash pandas. They get into the green bin no matter what you do. We are constantly cleaning up after those jerks.”
▪️ “Squirrels are cute but also crafty little freaks, they will always try to go where you don’t want them to.”
▪️ “But don't be tempting them with exposed garbage, compost. The responsibility is on the homeowner or tenant.”
▪️ “The city made the mistake of putting 4 oak trees on our street. Who needs an aerator when you have squirrels digging holes for acorns. What a mess — 50 lb of acorns a week!”
▪️ “My cat got sprayed and friends’ dogs. It’s the worst!”
▪️ “You should have added rats to the list. Ottawa now has a major rat problem.”
▪️ “Actually the worst Ottawa wildlife is clearly municipal politicians.”

Narcity Ottawa returns with another bombastic headline, and we’re waiting with bated breath: ‘This colourful European-style village near Ottawa is like an autumn trip to Switzerland’ they tease.
It’s Mont-Tremblant, and Katherine Caspersz does sell it. The photos look great.
