🚊 The manufacturer of the O Train carriages blames the tracks for past derailments, a freedom of information request has found. In public, Alstom and Rideau Transit Group, the builder of the tracks, refrained from blaming each other for flaws in the O Train system. However Alstom’s report, Ottawa LRT Recommendations for a Sustainable Solution puts the blame completely on the rails, saying they were not built to industry standard and were designed for the wrong temperature. – Arthur White-Crummey at CBC

When is the last time you visited a cinema?
Previously in ottawan polls:
We asked, ‘What do you think of e-scooters?’
5% I ride them, and think they are great transportation
31% I’ve never ridden one, but they look like fun
4% I've tried, and they are vastly overrated
60% They are a menace and should be banned
Commentary
▪️ “The cost isn’t really worth it either — cost me over $30 for 3 scooters for a 10 min ride. Less expensive to Uber!”
▪️ “Not sure why they are not allowed on NCC trails, seems dangerous on the road.”
▪️ “Big but, no pun intended, I worry about our youth getting even less excercise as I see more and more kids using these as transportation as opposed to bicycles. Could just be old man disease.”
▪️ “The more ways people have to get around that aren’t cars, the better off we all are. But different modes need their own space, eg bicycles and scooters separated from cars and pedestrians.”
▪️ “The main reason people hate them is because our transportation systems aren't built for them, so there’s no space for them. But in terms of what causes actual danger on our roads, that’s 100% cars, to which we give huge latitude. This is backwards.”
▪️ “My partners response: ‘they’re fun, they’re awesome!’”
▪️ “A great way to complete the last few kilometres of an LRT trip.”
