  • If you signed up and didn’t get two OTTAWANs today, that’s no cause for alarm, it’s an expected part of the warm up process. But we’d appreciate knowing about it at hello@theottawan.com anyway.

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

πŸ›Ÿ Ottawa firefighters rescued a resident and dog who had fallen through the ice on the Rideau River.Β  The dog initially fell through the ice near the intersection of Strandherd Drive and Prince of Wales Drive,  the resident fell through in an attempt to rescue it. Ottawa Fire Services recommends calling 911 rather than attempting ice rescues oneself. Both resident and dog are fine. – Rachel Morgan at CityNews

β†ͺ Spring must be around the corner as the City has begun its annual blasting away the ice on the Rideau River. The activity helps prevent spring flooding of homes along the river.

🚧 Despite the objection of the property owner, a 1920s farmhouse has been given heritage status by the City. The farmhouse, at the corner of Notre-Dame and Henri Lauzon Street, was deemed a ‘rare and unusual remaining example’. Henri Lauzon Street itself was named after the son of the house’s builder.  The current owner wanted to demolish the house.– Isabel Malseed in Capital Current

β†ͺ The headquarters of Global Development Canada, the building at  150 Slater Street, has been sold to Regional Group.

πŸš„ Residents in Hawkesbury are lobbying for a station on the Alto high speed line. Like Kingston, proponents – known as Hawkesbury on Track – see the value in being connected to Ottawa, Toronto, and Montréal for work and school. – James Morgan in The Review

β†ͺ The municipalities of Alfred and Plantagenet, Casselman, Champlain, Clarence-Rockland, East Hawkesbury, Hawkesbury, The Nation, and Russell have agreed to band together over the Alto line to ‘protect our citizens, make sure that the farmers are well compensated … [for] the land lost for the rest of their lives’.

πŸ’° The Ottawa Carleton District School Board is predicting an $11.5 million deficit this year. Board staff says the budget passed by trustees in June did not accurately show actual costs in a number of areas.  – Josh Pringle at CTV

πŸ›οΈ If you are a Federal or Provincial employee, the brand new Alt Hotel at the airport has special rates for you. You’ll need to book using the special registration at the link, and prove you are actually a public employee, but any excuse for a staycation, eh? – Germain Hotels

πŸ”˜ Within the past 5 years

πŸ”˜ I have been, I promise

πŸ”˜ Never

πŸ”˜ Although I was born 375 million years ago, it’s my first time

      Commentary

β–ͺ️ It’s now midnight, and I am reading today's issue.

β–ͺ️ Martha and Darren know best and don’t experience Spalling or Wheel Bearing or Axle Assembly problems!

β–ͺ️ I’m always happy to receive THE OTTAWAN, whatever time of day it arrives.

β–ͺ️ Early afternoon bc I usually have a bit of downtime and read it during break at work.

β–ͺ️ Just do you! This was a volunteer thing and so no expectations on my part. I wanted to donate but only work part-time.

β–ͺ️ The advantage of receiving an email is that I read it whenever I want. No need to respect a specific schedule to keep me happy.

β–ͺ️ It’s a lot of work so whenever suits you, M and D! Keep up the great work πŸ’šπŸ’š

β–ͺ️ Whenever you can.

β–ͺ️ No need to add extra pressure for a specific time delivery. I’m fine with thatever schedule works for you! I imagine this is not your only priority each day. Thank you for a great daily read.

β–ͺ️ I don’t care when I receive it. But if it’s in the afternoon, I’d prefer the next day’s weather forecast instead of a recap of what already occurred that day.

β–ͺ️ Whenever is cool, no stress. ✌️

β–ͺ️ We appreciate the hard work and challenges. Whenever works for you two for sending is fine! Thank you.

β–ͺ️ Late morning so i can find out what to do in the evening.

β–ͺ️ It seriously doesn’t matter to me as I am just happy to get it at any point over the day and just read it when I have time. I love the format, events listing, your polls and all the wit. Keep up the great work! :)

β–ͺ️ Who really needs so much routine? Send it when you want. πŸ˜„

β–ͺ️ Whenever. I like the variety.
