    WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

🛷 Although there is no money, there is a plan to turn Mooney’s Bay into a sledding destination. A new report recommends  a ‘14.6 metre “thrill hill,” a 5.7 metre “bunny hill”, and a cross-country ski training hill’ at a cost of $3.1 million. No money has been allocated to the plan. The hill at Mooney’s Bay has always been a desirable sledding location but has been officially closed to the activity in 2017. After a young girl was killed by hitting a tree in 2021, the City has actively fenced off the hill.  – Guy Quenneville at CBC

🫶 The pilot Alternative Neighbourhood Crisis Response programme in Centretown responded to 4,000 calls in its first year. The project is intended to allow an emergency response to people with mental health issues by medical professionals rather than police officers. Centretown residents call 211, rather than 911, to request help. Ottawa Police Service officers are available in the case of violence or criminal activity.   – Liam Baker at CBC

🚨 Ottawa Police are asking the public to help identify four suspects in a ‘bank investigation scam’. The scammers pretend to be from the bank and phone the victims, telling them that they are victims of a fraud and to cut up their credit and debit cards and put them in an envelope. Soon after, an associate of the scammers, posing as a bank courier, comes by and picks up the cut cards. Despite being cut up, the scammers can read the card numbers and CVV and usually tap will still work. – Ottawa Police Service

🛒 We’ve never heard of a pint-sized IKEA but Gatineau will be getting one. Called a ‘plan and order point’, the mini IKEA at 1100 Maloney Ouest Boulevard will have staff to help plan and design spaces and take orders for home delivery from the catalogue.  – Adam Beauchemin at CTV
