👻 Orléans haunted house operator is facing an exorcism by Ottawa Bylaw. For 26 Hallowe’ens the Albert family has converted the front of their house and driveway into a castle to scare fright fans, raising over $100,000 for CHEO. Ottawa Bylaw got involved after a complaint from a neighbour. Orléans East-Cumberland ward councillor Matthew Luloff is a supporter of the haunted house and has asked City staff to work out a solution. – Abyssinia Abebe in the Ottawa Citizen
🦴 The Ottawa Humane Society has launched an appeal for the pet food bank. So far this year, 6,000 pounds of pet food have been distributed by its Emergency Pet Food Bank for pet owners in need of assistance. Unopened pet food for any critter, usable leashes and collars, and other pet stuff can be dropped off at the Ottawa Humane Society’s Shirley Kearns Memorial Adoption Centre at 245 West Hunt Club Road. The Society also has published an Amazon Wish List for easy delivery. – Josh Pringle at CTV
🌊 A new City/Carleton University Olympic-sized pool is a step closer to reality. Ottawa City Council directed staff to enter a Memorandum of Understanding with the University to develop the 50 metre pool for residents and students. How construction costs will be paid, who gets access when, and if it will be built at all will be decided after October’s election. – Théo Lemarchandel in Capital Current
🚨 Two members of the Ottawa Police Service accused of misconduct against women have left the job. Constable Tyler Hawkins resigned July 1 after being suspended by the service over accusations that he approached women for dates using a fake name after he met them through calls for service. The allegations have not been tested in court. The second officer, who chose retirement, is currently facing charges of ‘alleged intimate partner violence: assault; harassment by threatening conduct and/or repeated following and/or watching/besetting; careless storage of the restricted Glock pistol issued to him by Ottawa police; and careless use of his police-issued Glock’. – Kristy Nease at CBC

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...
We have never given much thought about the Sens tune, Trumpeter’s Cry (aka Danger Flutes), but Steve Warne in the Hockey News has pointed out today a ‘A Fantastic Reimagined Version Of The Sens Theme Song’.
For comparison’s sake, here is the traditional version.
The Sens used to play the traditional version as the team took the ice but, in 2024, new owner Michael Andlauer changed the tune to AC/DC’s Hells Bells.
Are any of these themes better than another? THE OTTAWAN can’t answer that.
But back in 2014 Sens superfan Varada wrote the definitive second-by-second breakdown of the theme and it’s worth reading if only because it’s the first time we have seen the word ‘testosteronically’ in print. (Or ever.)
