🦠 The recent outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease in Aylmer has been traced to a high school. Gatineau hospitals had reported mysterious cases of Legionnaires’ disease for the past several months. It has been traced to a water-cooling tower at École secondaire Grande-Rivière, which has now been decontaminated. – Ted Raymond at CTV
🚄 An internal document shows that the Alto high-speed rail project could cost $150 billion over 40 years. Critics point out that the price includes operating and maintenance expenses, which are not usually counted in build costs. The document also states that revenue over 40 years is expected to be $105 billion. – Bill Curry in the Globe and Mail
🛠️ The federal government has officially started searching for someone to rehabilitate 24 Sussex. The government has posted a ‘Request for Qualification’ on its public tenders website, seeking submissions by September 21 from firms hoping to make a shortlist of seven. The seven will be whittled down to one. The government also plans to create a jury of experts to evaluate proposed designs. – Ashley Burke at CBC
🚗 The City’s Chief Financial Officer says they are very close to transferring Highway 174 in the East End to the province. While most highways are the responsibility of the province, that part is not. The provincial government agreed to take that portion off Ottawa’s hands in 2024, possibly saving the City hundreds of millions of dollars in maintenance costs. – Ted Raymond at CTV
⚖️ The former federal employee from Ottawa accused of spying on NATO in Belgium has been denied bail. A judge has ruled that Biwei Zhang must stay in custody until her trial, at least a year away.
