WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

đŸĢ The Province is making major changes to the trustees of the Ottawa Carleton District School Board and Ottawa Catholic School Board. The new rules will limit the number of trustees to 10, reduce their annual salary to $10,000 per year, and limit what expenses can be reimbursed. Each district will also have two new roles, a Chief Executive Officer and a Chief Education Officer (CEdO). While the Board can hire a new Chief Executive, it will require the permission of the Ministry to fire one.

The trustees of the Ottawa Carleton District School Board are currently sidelined while the Province has the district under supervision. There is no word when that may change. – Josh Pringle at CTV

💰 Ottawa and environs take 6 out of 10 spots on a ‘Most Affordable Cities in Ontario to Buy a Home’ list. The list, by real estate website Zola, puts Arnprior the least expensive – $399,995, followed by Kanata, Nepean, Carleton Place, Rockland, and Ottawa. Pembroke was number 11. – Rachel Morgan at CityNews

🚨 A former president of the Ottawa Real Estate Board is at risk of having her licenced revoked by the Real Estate Council of Ontario. The broker at 1st Options Realty Ltd is accused of ‘misappropriated sums totalling six figures from a trust account, including funds she later said were lost in an investment scam’. The accusations have not been proven in court. – Courtney Zwicker in Real Estate Magazine

THE DAILY POLL

Are you in favour of the changes to school trustees?

🔘 Yes

🔘 No

🔘 What does it matter? The Provincial government will just change the rules when it suits them

🔘 We should abolish school districts entirely

🔘 Choose this option if you have something to say about separate school boards, because THE OTTAWAN knows that you have an opinion on it

      Commentary

â–Ēī¸ “Nice accompaniment when I'm cooking or cleaning.”

â–Ēī¸ “Too many podcasts – too much information plus who and what to believe.”

â–Ēī¸ “Yes I do watch a few on a regular basis and they are informative and helpful!”

â–Ēī¸ “I love podcasts to keep informed. I find them really interesting and there is so much choice now.”

â–Ēī¸ “You forgot the option ‘I have a podcast myself’. Seems like everyone does.”

â–Ēī¸ “Prefer reading to listening – long live Newspapers!”

â–Ēī¸ “My mind wanders too much to listen to a podcast. I’m constantly rewinding and relistening. Waste of time for my neurodivergent self. I’ll read, thanks.”

â–Ēī¸ “So many podcasts … Thankful the CBC has a tonne of them too.”

â–Ēī¸ “No, just annoying one person perspective nagging away in your ear.”

â–Ēī¸ “Sadly I've never been able to get into Podcasts. Feels like listening to two people’s private conversation on the bus.”

â–Ēī¸ “Hate podcasts. Everyone is an‘expert’. The people who talk the most/loudest usually have the least amount of valuable things to say. Train your brains to read again people.”

â–Ēī¸ “The Pilgrims Podcast – for all things Plymouth Argyle 💚”
