Commentary
▪️ “You’d think being schools they’d understand kids better. They’re not going to bring it home.”
▪️ “In reality, it will just go into garbage cans at the schools. No kid is going to pack up recyclables and bring them home. Very anti-green initiative on the Boards’ parts.”
“Do that, and you’re going to see a HUGE increase in the amount of litter on the streets students travel to get home from school. Either that, or the recyclables will wind up in trash bins at the schools.
▪️ “I think the litterless lunches are a good idea. Even when on picnics etc. we bring our garbage home to recycle/compost so we are used to it.”
▪️ “I can almost guarantee that not all kids will bring home their recycling items! It should be mandatory to have it available at schools! Also, encourage kids to have reusable stuff and not packaged. It's no brainer!”
▪️ “The Board is under financial duress. Cuts are being made. I’m not surprised in the least. It’s inconvenient but at least it’s not further harming education. That’s a story for another day.”
▪️ “Let's get serious about recycling now!”
▪️ “For elementary schools yes, teachers have more important things to do than make sure 25 kids are putting stuff in the right bins, so send everything home."
▪️ “My son’s school has janitorial staff that are very passionate about recycling. They introduced a program to educate the children about recycling. I am sure they will be very disappointed by this decision by their school board."
▪️ “Will end up in garbage."
