The parking, the traffic, the poor road planning around the arena makes it just too annoying. It can take as long to get out of the parking lot there as it does to drive home

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
🧺 The executive director of the Byward Market Authority has been fired months after her appointment. Victoria Williston was appointed last January after serving as the Market’s communications director. While the Market would make no comment beyond ‘going in a different direction’, Market observer Barry Padolsky says it is an admission that the organization has a structural problem. – Abyssinia Abebe in the Ottawa Citizen
🚨 It’s not funny but this is the actual headline: ‘Bagpiper injured in ‘unprovoked’ altercation in downtown Ottawa’. A man has been arrested for assaulting a bagpiper on on Wellington Street near the Château Laurier. The bagpiper’s injuries were non life-threatening and police do not have a motive. – Abyssinia Abebe in the Ottawa Citizen
🅿️ The City is proposing to allow places of worship to rent out their parking lots to give returning Federal employees somewhere to park. The proposed Zoning Bylaw amendment would allow places of worship downtown and near transit stations to rent out their lots without requiring a business licence. – Josh Pringle at CTV
🗳️ Ottawa Civic Election
‘Sutcliffe to make campaign pledge for $95 monthly adult transit passes’ – Arthur White-Crummey at CBC
‘Put Yourself in Neil Saravanamuttoo’s Shoes. The mayoral campaign is past the half-way mark and it looks like this will be a four-way contest’ – Evan Harold Potter at City of Ottawa Politics
‘Did I Attend Mark Sutcliffe’s Final Mayor’s Barbecue? I went to the Mayor's BBQ and discovered vital municipal services’ – Evan Harold Potter at City of Ottawa Politics
‘School board trustees on the ballot this October, despite being stripped of their power’ – Emma Amodio at CityNews
‘Candidate nomination and withdrawal deadline for the 2026 Municipal Elections is Friday, August 21 at 2:00 pm’ – City of Ottawa

THE DAILY POLL
When is the last time you went to the Byward Market?
Commentary
▪️ “Collecting anything to do with Plymouth Argyle to go in my Argyle St. It’s the only part of the house over which I have jurisdiction.”
▪️ “Chainmail is basically metal crochet and maybe the most ‘classic’ hobby I have.”
▪️ “I am creating a collection of all the aircraft flown by the RCAF/RCN/CAF.”
▪️ “Canadian stamps. Very old-school and hopelessly boring to most people, but the layout on the page is very satisfying.”
▪️ “Also handweaving, spinning, and quilting!”
▪️ “I just moved and don’t want to collect anything to avoid clutter.”
▪️ “Does homebrewing count?”
▪️ “As someone who was the executor of a hoarder’s estate, please don’t collect things. Even a collection of ‘reasonable’ size is too much. No one cares! It’s a pain to sell off and you’ll get a fraction of what it’s worth when sold. Travel.”
▪️ “Needlepoint too.”
