WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
🚨 A local bank employee has been charged with accessing the account of Nepean Member of Parliament Mark Carney. The Mounties have charged the employee with fraud, unauthorized use of a computer, identity theft, and trafficking in identity information for using the internal system at the Royal Bank to look at the account. It is suspected that the 23 year-old employee was acting on a scheme from social media that promised him $360 for private information.
In addition to representing Nepean, Carney also serves as the Prime Minister. – Nivedita Balu at Reuters
✈️ Porter Airline’s plan to begin an Ottawa – Fort McMurray route has been temporily grounded. The new three-times-per-week service had been scheduled to begin November 17. However, the airline now expects to begin service in the spring. – Josh Pringle at CTV
🔒 Québec drivers can again park in Gananoque without fear of being clamped. The town’s mayor had directed staff to create a policy to clamp cars from Québec when issuing parking tickets due to the difficulty of collecting fines across provincial borders. Council had other ideas and voted to remove it. The vote was unanimous as the mayor also voted in favour. – Dan Taekema at CBC
🎧 Two new episodes of local podcasts have dropped. The City’s OttaTalk podcast asks ‘What has the Zoning By-law ever done for me, anyway?’. Over at Algonquin college, the journalism students on the Algonquin Times discuss the full-time support staff strike.

🛒 Every week, @stromanker reviews all the local grocery flyers and posts the deals on Ottawa Reddit. The week, he notes deals on bacon ($2.998/375g at Food Basics), grapes ($1.37/lb at Maxi and $1.77/lb Metro Cité des Jeunes), and sugar ($2/2kg at Independent and Provigo). – /Ottawa
THE DAILY POLL
How do you get your post?
-
Previously, in ottawan polls:
-
We asked, ‘How often do you visit Montréal?’
-
Commentary
▪️ “Love Montréal! It is such a wonderful city!”
▪️ “It’s nice to take the train and get dropped off right downtown rather than our station that drops you off in the middle of nowhere with a bridge to an unused baseball stadium ... at least the LRT goes there too, so it's not *that* bad.”
▪️ “Does not feel welcoming to non Francophones.”
▪️ “Well, more like monthly, but that wasn’t an option.”
▪️ “It’s always painful to come back to Ottawa after spending a few days in a proper city that really tries to be livable.”
▪️ “I grew up in Montréal and still have family there so I visit often.”
▪️ “I get my haircut there, do workshops at Les affûtes and much more!”
▪️ “I try to not go to QC. Their laws there are very discriminatory. I feel that they are not inclusive and so I stay in ON or go see my daughter out in BC.”
▪️ “I can’t remember the last time yet ... it’s a cool city and I should. But then I don’t. And that's that.”
▪️ “Montréal is a great city and we are lucky it is so close to Ottawa.”
▪️ “Great and unique North American city with lots of Public Chargers for EVs.”
▪️ “The last visit was sidetracked when we could not find parking by 11 am. One parking lot we used to use was sold for a condo and 3 public Parking spots 'full' around old Montréal. We left for Pointe Claire area. Next time Metro and/or Uber to our car.”
