WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
💰 The Auditor General’s tipline uncovered some City staff working a second job and others sleeping on the job, all while on duty. Nathalie Gougeon’s office found 57 cases being substantiated as fraud after investing 364 tips. Five City employees have been fired as a result. Unfortunately, the Auditor General only gives broad facts and not specifics on what happened. – Josh Pringle at CTV
🚧 A non-profit housing developer made a deal with the National Capital Commission for a property to develop affordable housing. Aside from being the first deal to be completed from the list of surplus Federal properties announced last year, the land itself is an oddity. Located near the Train Yards shopping centre, the 0.89 hectare plot of land is bordered on two sides by Riverside Drive and Industrial Avenues, with the O Train marking the third border. – Ben Andrews in the Ottawa Citizen
🗳️ The chief of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation has won reëlection. Greg Sarazin was initially elected in 2023. – CBC
🏒 The Sens have renovated and rebranded their team clothing store. Out is The Sens Store, in is the new look Ottawa Team Threads. The new concept doesn’t just have Sens jerseys but also Ottawa Charge and Ottawa Black Bears fits. – Sens
THE DAILY POLL
Did your garbage day change this week? (And give a hint of where you live in the comments)
-
Previously in ottawan polls:
-
We asked, ‘Would you rather fight one horse‑sized duck or 100 duck‑sized horses?’
-
10% One horse-sized duck
-
25% 100 duck-sized horses
-
65% I’m a lover, not a fighter and would rather sit down and talk out our issues over hay and bread crusts
-
Commentary
▪️ “Horses are way less aggressive than ducks, and duck sized ones you could just punt like footballs.
▪️ “Bread is bad for ducks! I will serve them corn instead.
▪️ “Though I probably would never give bread crusts to a duck cause it damages theirs feathers quite badly ... but seeds for sure!
▪️ “Massive chuckle when I got to the comments ▪️ “THE OTTAWAN is seriously digging deep on what to ask on opinion surveys/Polls! What's next, ‘Would you rather fight one horse‑sized duck or 100 duck‑sized horses?’”
▪️ “Except that bread is not good for ducks!
▪️ “I used to enjoy the rubber ducks race on the Canal near Carleton U. and Dow's Lake.
▪️ “Too funny! I appreciate your sense of humour
▪️ “One horse-sized duck. Please refer back to my answer to the smartest dog poll.
▪️ “I see what you did there! And I love it. Actually laughed out loud...
▪️ “Hold a skipping rope, spin in a circle, and take all the duck sized horses down at the knees. Trip those tiny suckers.
▪️ “They both sound horrifying.
▪️ “We would feast on hay and lettuce because bread makes the duckies’ tummies swell.
▪️ “One horse-sized duck vs my legion of Canadian geese.
▪️ “Nooooo, don't feed bread to the ducks!”
▪️ “I don’t mean to be a naysayer but this poll is quacked.
