WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
☎️ The Chinese government is using diplomatic status to oppose heritage designation of an old telephone building. City Council has designated the 1912 red brick building at 251 Besserer Street, which was built as the second Bell telephone exchange in Ottawa, under the Heritage Act.
However, the building is currently owned by the People’s Republic of China which says that diplomatic law requires its consent before a change in status. China says it uses the building for embassy purposes but didn’t give specifics. – Arthur White-Crummey at CBC
🛬 Air Transat has announced a new Ottawa - London route, starting May 15. The new route will fly to London’s Gatwick airport. Air Transat credits its partnership with Porter Airlines for making it possible, as Porter is making Ottawa a hub for its services from across Canada. – Mia Jensen in the Ottawa Business Journal
🚨 Two of Canada’s Most Wanted are at large from the Ottawa Police Service. The BOLO – ‘Be On the Look[o]ut’ – programme is an annual event that attempts to flush out convicted criminals (and some court avoiders) through publicity and rewards.
Mohamed Shire of Toronto is wanted in connection with a 2021 double homicide in an Alta Vista Drive parking lot.
Gibril Bakal of Edmonton is wanted in connection with a 2024 murder in Little Italy.
As for the wanted page itself, THE OTTAWAN can’t help but notice that it looks like it was inspired by The Daily Prophet in the Harry Potter films.

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...
