🚩 The Supreme Court has declined the City’s appeal over the Kanata golf course decision. The Ontario Superior Court had ruled that the owner of the Kanata Golf and Country Club could build 1,500 homes on its property, a decision that will now stand. The City had long argued that a 1981 agreement guaranteed a fixed amount of green space which would be reduced by the home building. – Arthur White-Crummey at CBC
🚨 A 26-year-old man has been charged for threatening the life of Morrissey before his performance at CityFolk last Friday.
On BlueSky, the man had written ‘Steven Patrick Morrissey when you perform at TD Place here in Ottawa next week on the evening of September 12th, 2025 at about 9pm, I will be present at the venue in the audience and I will attempt to shoot you many times and kill you with a very large gun that I own illegally.’ – Nicholas Kohler in the Ottawa Citizen
↪ You oughta know that Alanis Morissette was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Ottawa over the weekend. ‘This distinction honours her achievements in music and her commitment to women’s empowerment as well as physical, psychological and spiritual integrity’, says the university.
🗳️ The warden of Renfrew County wants his position changed to a directly elected official. In Refrew County, like most Ontario counties, the warden – which is anagalous to a mayor – is a regular councillor whom the others appoint to the position for one-year term. The councillors themselves are not elected by the public but are appointed by the municipalities within the county. Warden Peter Emon also expects that an elected warden would serve for four years. – Alex Lambert in the Eganville Leader
🚆 Passengers who like catching the VIARail in Cornwall or Brockville for more options will soon have fewer options. Not every train on the Montréal – Toronto route goes through Ottawa; we’re actually on a bypass between Brockville and Dorval. There are several other trains that go straight through and some people prefer to make the trip to Cornwall or Brockville to catch them. But in a measure to make service between the Toronto and Montréal quicker, Trains 60, 61, 68, and 69 will no longer stop in Cornwall (or Kingston). Trains 68 and 69 will no longer stop in Brockville. – Josh Pringle at CTV
🧄 The Ottawa Citizen’s gardening columnist says that now is the time to get your garlic into the ground for next year. Garlic doesn’t thrive when planted in the spring as it stops growing when it gets hot. – Adair Heuchan in the Ottawa Citizen
🌊 The Museum of Civilization still closed due to two watermain breaks on Laurier Street in Gatineau. The City says that the breaks have been repaired but have issued a ‘boil water’ advisory for Laurier Street and the Jos Montferrand building. – The Ottawa Citizen

Do you think the City should keep fighting the golf course over green space in Kanata?
Previously in ottawan polls:
We asked, ‘What are your Thanksgiving plans?’
6% I’ll be making the spread
20% I’m going to friends or family
8% I’m ordering a pre-made dinner
11% I’m going to a restaurant
55% I have no plans at all
Commentary
▪️ “I’m leaving the country!”
▪️ “No plans yet. I prefer to host because we have more room than our local family, but I detest the pre/post gathering clean-fest.”
▪️ “Red Apron does a bread spread.”
▪️ “I have done the takeout dinners before but they are getting more expensive so we will do it potluck style this year!”
▪️ “I’m feeding upwards of 25 people over two days of celebrating, so we no longer do the turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, veggies, dessert route, instead, it will be a massive homemade lasagna, caesar salad, garlic bread, and several types of pies.”
▪️ “We are flying up from the States to be with our lovely family, to enjoy a traditional turkey dinner and to sample the best local ale that the Ottawa Valley has to offer. Bliss!”
▪️ “I don’t eat meat and I don’t like crowds ... so happy to stay in with my husband!”
▪️ “Farm Boy has been our Thanksgiving and Christmas go-to for years. Our kids and grandkids like it about as much as the meals we used to labour intensely over.”
▪️ “Waiting for October to plan!”

Local newspapers may now be few and far between, and online newsites tend to be most successful in urban areas but the rural residents of South Glengarry Township have for decades had a more permanent news source: The Rock.
Located at the corner of the Glen Road and County Road 27, locals chalk news that needs to be spread on it: weddings, meetings, birth and deaths – all get reported, briefly.
