WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

🏒 Sens playoff tickets go on sale to the public Friday. Season ticket holders can snag tickets on Thursday. Tickets are limited to four per person. – Ottawa Senators

🎞️ The Museum of History will be closing its CINÉ+ big screen in June. The cinema used to be an IMAX theatre but is now a giant 4K flat screen and is billed as the ‘biggest and brightest’ in the region. The Museum has not said what it will do with the space. – Willam Eltherington at CTV

🚌 OC Transpo will refurbish 30 old buses rather than tossing them out. The 30 are of the articulated type and have exceeded their expected 15-year lifespan. OC Transpo says they will be used as backup in case of disruptions in service. – Aedan Helmer in the Ottawa Citizen

⚕️ A new HART Hub has opened in Bells Corners. The Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment centre is the second one in Ottawa and intended to provide all emcompassing mental health and addictions care. The provincial government has been closing safe-injection sites across Ontario is favour of HART Hubs.  – Anchal Sharma at CBC

🐴 There are up to nine foals at the Musical Ride’s farm in Pakenham that need names, says the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Kids 14 years and younger are asked to submit names that start with ‘C’ for consideration. Deadline is April 24.– Royal Canadian Mounted Police

THE DAILY POLL

Will far will the Sens go?

🔘 Out in Round 2

🔘 At least to the Eastern Conference final

🔘 All the way, then lose the final

🔘 Taking the Cup!

🔘 Nope, I can’t have my heart broken yet again

  • Previously in ottawan polls:

  • We asked, ‘Are you in favour of the changes to school trustees’

    • 10% Yes

    • 13% No

    • 28% What does it matter? The Provincial government will just change the rules when it suits them

    • 19% We should abolish school districts entirely

    • 30% Choose this option if you have something to say about separate school boards, because THE OTTAWAN knows that you have an opinion on it

    •
      Commentary

▪️ “The Catholic school system should be totally privatized — why is the state subsidizing religion? Private schools can teach Catholicism if they want, as long as they meet other educational standards. But the subsidization is crazy.”

▪️ “The school boards are another area for the government to micromanage. They really need to fund the schools adequately; this would resolve many issues.”

▪️ “A lot of the electorate doesn’t seem to pay much attention to electing trustees. If it were that important, one would think there would be a lot more publicity concerning the trustees and whatever it is they are supposed to be administering.”

▪️ “Very Trumpian of them. Soon Ontario will function on a par with backwoods Texas and vote MOGA.”

▪️ “I believe in the value and importance of having school trustees to advocate on behalf of families so reducing their powers and already nominal compensation fee will not help attract people to the job. Disappointing.”

▪️ “Some school boards had too much power and could never get along. eg. OCDSB.”

▪️ “Many changes are required to the School Board system so let's start now!”

▪️ “Ford is going to do whatever he wants. Taking out the cameras around schools was a reckless decision! I hope the families sue him. I have no trust in a man who thinks Crown Royal alcohol is more important then our children!”

▪️ “There should be only public schools. There should be one school board and elected trustees.”
