It’s a constant problem. A lot of swimmers are being harassed and they’re being penalized instead of penalizing the boaters

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
🌼 After growing for more than 100 years, Budd Gardens in Blackburn Hamlet is closing. The family says the plant-growing business isn’t faltering; it is just time to retire. The property is now up for sale. – Arthur White-Crummey at CBC
❗ City deadlines for residents affected by recent extreme weather are looming. If you have storm-related debris you wish to be taken away by the City, the deadline is tomorrow. On Tuesday, fees will return for storm-related debris brought to the Trail Waste Facility Landfill, so you have tomorrow to drop off debris without charge. For wards 7, 8, 9, and 16, tomorrow is the final day to remove damaged trees without a permit. – City of Ottawa
↪ The Rockland Golf Club says that people using an e-scooter and a golf cart have damaged the course.
🌊 An indoor water park and adjacent hotel have been approved by the City’s Planning and Housing Committee. The Committee said the planned development near the Canadian Tire Centre and Tanger Outlets would create a destination area and generate jobs. City Council will discuss final approval next week. – Ted Raymond at CTV
🛒 Every week @stromanker reads all the local grocery flyers and posts the deals on Ottawa Reddit. This week, he highlights Country Harvest bread ($2.45/loaf at Independent, Loblaws, and Real Canadian Superstore), corn on the cob (19¢ each at Maxi), and Phoenicia yoghurt ($1.88/750g at Adonis). – r/ottawa

THE DAILY POLL
Do you feel like Ottawa is the second safest city in Canada?
Commentary
▪️ “Federal, so I know what Carney and Doug Ford, who thinks he runs Canada, are doing.”
▪️ “Local and city is where we can influence things most easily. + French news, as I’m an immigrant.”
▪️ “It all directly affects me, so all of the above. I’m voting in the US election in November, so that’s especially important!”
▪️ “All of the above plus International.”
▪️ “City but close behind is Federal politics mainly due to the ‘Trump Factor’ BS.”
▪️ “Local is more interesting but harder to get.”
▪️ “My favourite news program is Power and Politics with David Cochrane on CBC at 5:00 pm. It covers federal and provincial news.”
▪️ “The best comedy show out there.”
▪️ “All news about Canada is of interest. I do media monitoring for an NGO in Ottawa, so I read lots about Ottawa, but I also follow Ontario and Canada news.”
▪️ “All of them.”
▪️ “Local, provincial, federal and both sides of the political stupidity down south.”
▪️ “All of it, including international but excluding American unless it pops up. Watching an empire fall to its own hubris feels like watching a drunk driver crash his car in slow-mo at a Monster Truck Rally.”
▪️ “All because they impact me from a micro to a macro level. Sometimes I tune out and just drink red wine ... not from California!”
▪️ “The Municipal Level of politics has the most impact on all our lives each and every day so pay attention to it!”

DEALS OF THE DAY
BUT, ONE MORE THING ...
Alessa Hickman at Narcity Ottawa has ‘10 must-do things in Ottawa before summer ends’. They are: Have a picnic at the Arboretum, Spend a day by the water, Hang out at Major’s Hill Park, Go to an outdoor movie, Grab a bite (or drink) on a patio, Bike around the city, Go for a hike in the Greenbelt, Play a round of mini golf, and Take a day trip without leaving Ottawa.
You’ll notice that is only nine things – she skipped No 9 – but they are solid suggestions nonetheless.
