• – Capital ward councillor Shawn Menard reacting to the City spending $450,000 to investigate himself, council candidate Doug Thompson, and advocacy group Horizon Ottawa over a total of less than $1,500 in disputed election expenses. • The City’s Election Compliance Audit Committee declined to prosecute Menard and Thompson but recommended prosecuting Horizon Ottawa.

  🗝️ The Château Laurier, the 113-year-old grande dame of Rideau Street, is in the inaugral collection of hotels awarded the Michelin Guide’s Michelin Key for hospitality excellence.  The Château Laurier is the only hotel in the Capital to be so recognized.   🎓 Carleton University and the University of Ottawa have respectfully adequate ratings in Macleans magazine’s annual Universities and Colleges issue. In the category ‘Best Medical Doctoral Universities’, the University of Ottawa came in at number seven and for the category ‘Best Comprehensive Universities’, Carleton came in at number 4. – Macleans Universities and Colleges

  BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

  In Cathy Curry’s newest newsletter, the Kanata North ward councillor notes that Council will debate transferring the O Train to the province but OC Transpo should ‘maintain local control over service delivery and hiring of personnel’ and ‘any savings from reduced debt-servicing and maintenance costs be re-invested into OC Transpo’.

  Honestly, THE OTTAWAN truly wishes good luck to the City in convincing the province to run and pay for the O Train but not have any say over the service, and to pay back any cost savings.

  But THE OTTAWAN is certainly in favour of the third request: get on with ‘planning, design, procurement, construction, delivery and operation of Stage 3 LRT to Kanata, Stittsville and Barrhaven’.  It’s about time.
