WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
🔎 A piece of the crashed small plane sought by Transport Canada has been held by the Ottawa Police Service for the past month. A west end couple recognized the piece of metal in their front yard as a small engine camshaft and, aware of the small plane crash near the Ottawa Airport two days before, turned it over to Ottawa Police. After Transport Canada made a request to the public to look for pieces of the airplane, the couple contacted the agency and told them they gave it to the Police, which previously said it had ‘no information’ for the Board. – David Fraser at CBC
💥 After 45 years, a body found in Algonquin Park has been identified. Eric ‘Ricky’ Singer of Cleveland was last seen at his parents house in Ohio, Oct. 4, 1973. His body was found in 1980, but police had no idea who it belonged to. Three years ago, they submitted his DNA for forensic geneology – where the lab finds the closest DNA match, no matter how remote, then uses traditional family tree methods to locate a candidate. Foul play is not suspected in Singer’s death. – Maan Alhmidi in the Canadian Press
🎾 The sawmill in Maniwaki will close ‘indefinitely’ due to US tariffs on softwood lumber. Eight employees will be laid off after October 10. – Josh Pringle at CTV
🎙️ The Sens radio play-by-play team will cover away games from downtown Ottawa. Rights holder Bell Media, which broadcasts the games on TSN 1200 AM, is not willing to pay for the costs of sending the broadcasters on the road so Dean Brown and Gord Wilson will be calling what they see on television. – Graeme Nichols in the Hockey News
🎧 The 613’s latest Municipal Panel podcast has dropped. Neil Saravanamuttoo, Joanne Chianello, and Jon Willing talk about the Integrity Commissioner’s report on councillor Stéphanie Plante’s social media postings and on the 2026 budget directions, specifically what it means for transit, potential pay increases for councillors, and who made the decision that all staff will return to office full time in January. – The 613
THE DAILY POLL
If the Sens came up with a really compelling plan, would you support the City investing in the new arena and district?
▪️ “I would love to go but the tickets are too expensive.”
▪️ “I’ve attended Dragon*Con twice and Windy Con once but never any Comic Cons. The Con experience is pretty fun!”
▪️ “Actually I would use crowded and expensive as descriptors.”
▪️ “Went to the 1st or 2nd one so time to go again! Glad they are still going and it's more popular now.”
