WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
🪢 The Ottawa Fire Service has rescued a belted kingfisher that became tangled in a fishing line that was in a tree. The bird was ensnared in a line hanging over water off Vances Side Road in West Carleton, and a local reported it to the Service. The bird was then handed over to the local, who gave it to a wild bird sanctuary. – CBC
🚨 A second set of remains have been found on a rural property near Smiths Falls. The body of Robert Lambert, from Montague Township, has been found after he went missing eight years ago. The property made the news last year when remains of the owner, Robbie Thompson, were found after Thompson had been missing for two years. Four people have been charged over Thompson’s death but Ottawa Provincial Police are being cagey about the circumstances and relationships between everyone. – Natasha O’Neill at CityNews
🍺 After nine years in business, the Orléans Brewing Company shut its doors yesterday. The owners say ‘rising costs, increased rent, mounting pressures, and circumstances beyond our control have left us with no other path forward’. Orléans Brewing was the first craft beer brewer to locate in Orléans, which still plays host to Stray Dog Brewing and Broadhead Brewing. – Instagram
🏗️ New Development proposals
- A 12 storey affordable housing project in Little Italy has been approved by the the city’s Planning and Housing Committee. The 124 apartment building would be located at the northeast corner of Loretta Avenue South and Hickory Street. – Charlie Senack in the Kitchissippi Times
- Scouts Canada wants to redevelop its headquarters on Baseline Road into a 40 storey building. two 34 storey buildings, and a 28 storey building. There would be 1,251 apartements plus commerical space. – Josh Pringle at CTV
- A new proposal would build a seven tower development on a Myers Automotive Group dealership on Baseline Road. The development would see two buildings of 35 storeys and 25 storyes, and six-storeys and one of 14 storeys. – Josh Pringle at CTV
