QUOTE
“
– Chief executive of local mom and pop business Shopify Tobi Lutke to a proposal on Twitter that votes of citizens in Canada should be weighted to the amount of income tax they pay, ‘no income tax paid - 0 vote, $1-100k - 1 vote, $100-200k 2 votes and so on... cap it at 5 votes for $500k+’.
He also said that pensioners should lose their vote. ‘New deal: when you get your pension deal it’s locked in and guaranteed. But now you are a dependent and that means no voting, just like dependents under age. Enjoy the deal, let people with a stake in the future decide’.

THE DAILY POLL
Will you go to the Ottawa 200 Block Party at City Hall?
▪️ “It’s rare I buy paperback books. Maybe a couple for holiday giving each year but that’s it. I find them as well as all printed magazines etc super expensive. It had to be something spectacular or a special edition before I fork over my hard earned pens.”
▪️ “I check out reviews of books on-line a lot. Have bought on-line but have to be careful as I have had several books not meet my expectations. I am now trying to go into bookstores to look at certain books. Avid reader; I have a flip phone only! LOL.”
▪️ “I get what I like or need to read, sometimes after a long hold queue, at the Ottawa Public Library.”
▪️ “If a local bookstore doesn’t have the book I want, I can get them to order it! Keeps money away from Bezos.”
▪️ “More the better!”
▪️ “It’s the heart and soul of our village of Manotick!”
▪️ “I looove Perfect Books and Octopus Books but we have so many amazing options in the city and it’s fun to explore what they have going on.”
▪️ “Spaniel’s Tale is my fav. I admit to mostly browsing but purchase every couple of months.”
▪️ “I have found myself visiting the library more often than the bookstore as of late.”
▪️ “According to the Perfect Books website, I have placed approximately 80 preorders in the last six years. Please never let them tell me how much I’ve spent on impulse purchases in store.”
▪️ “I am an avid library user.”
▪️ “Haven't bought a paperback in years. My books come in the form of e-books from the library system were you have access to multiple libraries. Bad business model. Paperback books are a small niche market at best.”
▪️ “I’m a total Kindle fan, so I get my books online. My small Kindle reader holds hundreds of books.”
▪️ “My answer is truthfully never. I don't buy books. I read what I want to online and if I really want to read a hard copy, I go to the library.”
▪️ “Ottawa has some really great independent bookstores. I particularly love Perfect Books on Elgin.”
▪️ “I love our local indie bookstores!! I work near Spaniel's Tale and live closer to Perfect Books and they're my go to for book buying!”
