WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
🚨 The Ottawa Police Service plans to add more officers in the ByWard Market and downtown core this spring. Chief Eric Stubbs says the new plan will begin May 1 with a ‘sustained presence’ in the ByWard Market, Rideau Street, Centretown, Chinatown, and Bank Street. – Josh Pringle at CTV
🐕 An owner is calling for the closure of a Gatineau doggy daycare after his dog was mauled to death. The man left his golden retriever in the care of Kaninou daycare while he was away on a trip but was informed that his dog was bitten. After a visit to the vet, he believed the dog was mauled and the man says that he has been contacted by other people who had left their pets injured by the service. – Cameron Mahler at CBC

Groulx is currently employed by the Ottawa Coalition of Business Improvement Areas. Former journalist Joanne Chianello is also planning to run for the seat. – Charlie Senack in the Ottawa Business Journal
THE DAILY POLL
Were you born in the Capital?
▪️ “Tuxedos are definitely smartest as evidenced by the furry geniuses otherwise known as Wiggy and Jackson.”
▪️ “My tuxedo cat was smart but my black was brilliant and so affectionate.”
▪️ “We have an orange cat. He’s very playful, curious, and loveable but not the most intelligent. ”
▪️ “Now if the question was about dogs I would be enthusiastic.”
▪️ “The tuxedo option was not clickable, that was going to be my choice. Our tortoise shell is a dumb clumsy asshole, but we love her as the same. Our tuxedo is the polar opposite.”
▪️ “My tuxedo cats are the sweetest, but torties are the smartest.”
▪️ “Every orange tabby I have ever known are just soooo smart!”
▪️ “You forgot about white cats :( ”
▪️ “White cats forgotten.”
▪️ “Grey cats are the smartest.”
▪️ “Dogs are WAY smarter and far more friendly.”
▪️ “Really?”
▪️ “What, no grey cats?! No white cats?!”
▪️ “Certainly not white. White cats are awesome, but stupid!”
▪️ “Get a dog.”
▪️ “All cats are a little odd at times, but the calico, tabby, tortoise shell are certainly the opposite of orange cats.”
▪️ “White!!
▪️ “As per Ottawan tortoiseshells Poppy and Tutti!”

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...
In the Centretown Buzz, Jack Hanna has a 200th anniversary story of how the shape of Ottawa was set by a ‘fast-money scheme ignited a feud between a speculator and the governor general’.
Read it, it’s good, and has tidbits like this: the Rideau Canal could have been based in Richmond instead of ByTown – if only Capt John LeBreton hadn't screwed the governor general (and Earl of Dalhousie) over some land sales.
