– Atlético Ottawa head coach Diego Mejía after announcing that he will be leaving the team at the end of the month for a new opportunity – possibly Atlético de San Luis in Mexico. In his year-and-a-quarter as manager, Mejía never lost a home match.

City Hall flies the flag of embassies and high commissions on their national days.

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

πŸ—οΈ Residents near the Ottawa Hospital’s new Civic campus at Dow’s Lake are lobbying to save buildings at risk. The original 1924 Civic Hospital building on Carling Avenue and the former nurses’ residence are not currently listed as heritage buildings and are at risk of being demolished . – Amanda McLeod in the Kitchissippi Times

πŸ”₯ Ottawa Fire Services is now using next generation 911. Next generation 911 means that the fire department can transfer calls to other cities – or receive calls from other cities. Before now, if a person was aware of a need for the fire department elsewhere – such as a call from a family member – that person would have to somehow look up the department’s phone number in that city. The Ottawa Police Service moved to the new 911 earlier this year. – City of Ottawa

🦟 University of Ottawa researchers say woodchips on trails reduce ticks. The researchers tested two trails in the Capital, Mer Bleue and Stony Swamp, with two kinds of woodchips. Untreated woodchips reduced ticks by around 50 per cent, however woodchips treated with the pesticide deltamethrin reduced the critters by 99 per cent.  – Gabrielle Huston at CBC   The Study

🚌 The City has opened the old bus-only Transitway on-ramp at Woodroffe to all traffic. Maintenance by the Minstry of Transportation and O Train Line 2 construction has made a mess of traffic on the Queensway. The City hopes that residents will be able to avoid some of it by using the old on-ramp .  – Josh Pringle at CTV

πŸ—³οΈ Ottawa Civic Election

  • ‘Sutcliffe pledges to keep tax increases low if re-elected mayor of Ottawa’ – Josh Pringle and Ted Raymond at CTV
  • ‘4-Point Transit Recovery Plan’ – Neil Saravanamuttoo

THE DAILY POLL

Have you ever called 911?

πŸ”˜ No

πŸ”˜ Yes

πŸ”˜ Yes, but by accident

πŸ”˜ I’m no snitch

πŸ”˜ I have had reason to but I can never remember the number

  • Previously in OTTAWAN polls:

  • Are you suffering from pollen allergies right now?’

    • 55% Yes, it’s terrible this year

    • 18% Yes, but this year is not really much different than other years

    • 16% No, I sometimes suffer from pollen allergies but not this year

    • 10% It never affects me

    • 1% Allergies are fake and a sign of eating a poor diet

    • Commentary

β–ͺ️ “Thank God for over the counter medications like Claritin! Would suffer even more without these little white pills.”

β–ͺ️ “Yes, it’s really bad this year.”

β–ͺ️ “Suffer, no — not usually in spring. I am noticing some extra boogers tho. The pollen needs to go somewhere. The tree next door has been dumping on my car.”

β–ͺ️ “A lot of sneezing fits and hacking coughs. :(”

β–ͺ️ “I hired a company to clean the ductwork in my home and that made a huge difference.”

β–ͺ️ “I only started getting allergies when I moved to Ottawa but this year I've had pretty much nothing and now I'm questioning the last few years ...”

β–ͺ️ “Absolutely terrible this year! The dandelions going to seed in my neighbourhood are just filling the air.”

β–ͺ️ “I have had this weird tickling cough for weeks and it was so annoying until someone told me it was probably allergies. Now I’m at peace with it at least knowing what it is ...”

β–ͺ️ “It started earlier than normal for me and have an ongoing rash to boot!”

β–ͺ️ “My balcony is covered in yellow from the pollen. Horrible out there. Allergies are awful.”
