WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
🚨 All Ottawa Police Service officers should wear body cameras, recommends inquest jury. The jury was examining the death of Raymond Alliman, who was killed in a shootout with Ottawa Police in a Byward Market parkade in 2017. – Jenna Legge and Jayden Dill at CBC
🏳️🌈 Governor General Louise Arbour will speak at the opening ceremony of Thunderhead tomorrow morning. Thunderhead is the national memorial to recognize the purge of thousands of gay and lesbian people from the Canadian military, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and federal civil service from the 1950s to 1990s. The monument is located at 201 Wellington Street. – Canadian Architect Governor General
🛏️ The former O’Connor hotel on the eponymous street will open for transitional housing in the autumn. The City purchased the hotel last year for $45 million, with funding from all levels of government. Rooms have been renovated to be apartment style with kitchens, and new doors have been created to combine rooms. Around 125 families can be accomodated. – Peter Szperling at CTV
↪ Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services has broken ground on Odayanhaway, a building with 66 affordable rental units built on the former parking lot of the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa. – Liam Baker at CBC
🚍 ParaTranspo users will finally be able stay out later on Friday and Saturday nights. Starting this autumn, ParaTranspo will accept requests for trips leaving up to 2:00 am, 1:30 am in rural areas. OC Transpo shows its usual attitude to those that need the ParaTranspo service in that not only must users book their trips on the previous day, they cannot use the online booking system and must phone it in. – Josh Pringle at CTV
