WHAT’S GOING ON AT CITY HALL

There are two meetings of the always swinging Committee of Adjustment tomorrow, at 9:00 am and 1:00 pm.

Agenda

Whose flag is flying at City Hall today? Comoros and Malawi

City Hall flies the flag of embassies and high commissions on their national days.

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

βš™οΈ It’s the first official day of the four day per week return to office for Federal employees. Managers must be in the office five days per week. Within the civil service, the nickname is RTO4.

The issues to be worked through are having enough desk space for everyone, having enough parking spaces for everyone, and explaining why having Zoom meetings in the office are better than having Zoom meetings at home wearing pajama bottoms.

At least four departments say they are delaying RTO4: Global Affairs Canada, Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada, Department of National Defence, and Environment and Climate Change Canada.

 – Public servants are back in office four days a week — but not in these big departments (Ben Andrews in the Ottawa Citizen)

 – Federal workers return to the office 4 days a week. Will it be smooth sailing or ‘another hot mess’? (Mathew Kupfer at CBC)

 – Federal public servants now required to be in office 4 days a week. Here’s what you need to know (Josh Pringle at CTV)

🌊 Mayor Mark Sutcliffe wants to increase support for residents hit by last weeks floods. Sutcliffe will ask City Council to approve an increase to the City’s Compassionate Grant program, which offers $1,000 in assistance. About 4,500 houses are affected.. – Ted Raymond at CTV

🏳️‍🌈 The Ottawa Carleton District School Board will not participate in Capital Pride this year. In a statement, the District said that Capital Pride occurs in August, outside the school year. – Michael McBean in the Ottawa Citzen

β†ͺ The supervisor appointed to run the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board by the province over concerns that the elected board was not fiscally responsible has authorized his first budget with a $3.5 million deficit.

πŸ—³οΈOttawa Civic Election

  • ‘Is the ballot question: Do we need a new mayor?’ – Randall Denley in the Ottawa Citizen
  • ‘Mark Sutcliffe wants voters to stay the course, as he pledges to keep fighting for Ottawa’ – Sydney Ko at Ottawa Compass
  • ‘Could the mayor’s tune on RTO cost him votes?’ – Scott Taymun in the Ottawa Citizen
  • ‘Beyond 43.67%: Could 40,000 Irregular Voters Be Jeff Leiper's Real X Factor?’  – Evan Harold Potter in City of Ottawa Politics

If you collect vintage cookbooks, you need to check out the site.

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

NarCity Ottawa is always taking provocative stances, like Alessa Hickman’s today: ‘7 Ottawa day trips I'd choose over downtown any day — as a tourist or local’. She suggests Calypso Theme Waterpark, Calabogie & Eagle’s Nest Lookout, Parc Omega, Gatineau Park, Manotick Village, Camp Fortune, and Picton.
