WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
💸 Mayor Mark Sutcliffe has announced new details about the Lansdowne 2.0 site reduction. Sutcliffe put a positive spin on the project, announcing:
- The total project price will be $418.8 million, which is in line with predictions two years ago
- Construction will cost $313 million. EBC Inc. will be the general contractor with a fixed-price bid.
- Taxpayers will be on the hook for $130.7 million, as air rights are expected to be sold for $65 million to Mirabella Development Corporation and the remaining $223 million coming from revenues.
As for the reductions
- The north side of the stadium will lose its roof and have its seats reduced from 14,000 to 11,200
- The arena, which regularly sells out Ottawa Charge hockey games will be reduced from 9,500 to 5,500 seats
Capital ward councillor Shawn Menard says the $418.8 million amount is misleading, as it does not count the cost of a new $19 million parkade and $44 million on a retail strip.
Menard says the real cost is $483 million, a $64 million difference.

Ottawa Bulldog has helpfully posted the five City reports and agreements for Lansdowne 2.0.
🚋 Vandals caused the closure of Line 2 between Mooney’s Bay and South Keys Sunday night. Emergency repairs were made overnight and the O Train reopened at 10:00 am yesterday. OC Transpo would not say what damage had occured. – CBC
🛠️ The City has launched a new online tool to help local businesses at each stage of its existance. Those stages being: plan, launch, grow, and cash out, err .. ‘transfer’. You can try out the tool here. – City of Ottawa
THE DAILY POLL
Which are the worst wildlife critters?
-
Previously in ottawan polls:
-
We asked, ‘Should the O Train be extended to Kanata, Stittsville and Barrhaven?’
-
Commentary
▪️ “Yes extend it, but only once the kinks are worked out on the rest of the line.”
▪️ “Those areas are developing quickly. If decided to move forward today, by the time an extension is approved and built the need will only be greater.”
▪️ “Let’s fix public transit for everyone.”
▪️ “Or we could de-amalgamate! That would work too!”
▪️ “No more rail. Expand the Transitway.”
▪️ “We should be expanding the O-Train and light rail in general to all corners of the greater 613!”
▪️ “As a Barrhavenite, I would welcome the O Train! Thanks for considering us :)”
▪️ “Barrhaven has a dedicated bus transit way now, I’m skeptical that extending the LRT would decrease commute times significantly.”
▪️ “If you’re going to be anti-car, you need reliable public transpo in the suburbs, esp from the burbs to the urban core. You’re not going to hate the burbs away. So even tho they’re not pop-dense, the O Train is needed there.”
▪️ “For god’s sake Ottawa, don't stop now. Put your big city pants on and act like a first class city and not the giant sprawling suburb you currently are. The LRT should elevate this city, do it right!”
▪️ “It is critical to get people out of their SUVs and onto public transit. We are killing the planet. If Ottawa wants to be a world class city, public transit is a must.”
▪️ “They should get the current lines working reliably first. But yes, eventually have them reach western communities.”

MADE IN CANADA DEALS OF THE DAY

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...
Forbes magazine decided to drop by Ottawa and has an unusual take for a magazine that revels in its capitalistic ethos: ‘Eco-Friendly Ottawa: Fun And Sustainable Ways To Explore Canada’s Capital City’. Usually, we like listing the suggestions but it's a lengthy list.
Travel Weekly has published ‘Our guide to Ottawa, Canada’s underrated capital city’ and makes suggestions that would be obvious to someone who has never visited the city.
Meanwhile, the Ottawa Business Journal is full of ‘aime’ for Gatineau, with its article ‘Ottawa’s ‘cool little sister’: Outaouais finding a niche as a tourist destination, officials say’.
