WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
🪁 Look out for military drones over downtown next month. The Canadian Armed Forces will be testing technologies to track mini-drones from various levels of high rise buildings. The exact locations haven’t been disclosed. – David Pugliese in the Ottawa Citizen
🚗 Car sharing service Communauto will soon allow Ottawa and Gatineau users to pick up their car in one city and drop it off in another. Communauto has been around for awhile in both cities, allowing members to book a car in their neighbourhood using an app for a few hours, then return it to its same parking spot. The new rules mean that members can make one way trips. – Communauto
🗝️ Ottawa community agencies are seeking new residences for 136 asylum seekers after the Federal government announces it will stop paying for hotel rooms as of tomorrow. Some fear that they will be transferred to other Canadian cities as shelters in the city are already over capacity. – Priscilla Ki Sun Hwang at CBC
🌪️ The Arlington Woods community unveiled its new Trend Arlington Community Pavilion, built as a memorial to the devastation caused by the 2018 tornado. The pavilion is built from some of the white pines in Arlington Woods uprooted by the tornado. Artist Jennifer Kelly provided the included public art, 18 butterflies suspended from the rafters.

Previously, in ottawan polls:
-
We asked, ‘What should be done about Wellington Street?’
-
18% Creating a pedestrian Parliamentary district with a tram sounds great
-
32% Traffic on Wellington is vital and shouldn't be interrupted
-
18% The National Capital Commission should stick to parks not urban planning
-
32% The National Capital Commission has a far better vision for the city than the City itself does
-
Commentary
▪️ “This city has no vision.”
▪️ “The tram vision is gorgeous!”
▪️ “And open up Sparks to vehicles.”
▪️ “No alternate routes available so it is important to keep Wellington Street open to public traffic.”
▪️ “I wanted to vote for pedestrian Parliamentary district, but that’s not feasible with traffic as it is and OC Transpo not capable of making the city the kind where you don’t need a car downtown or only need one in suburbia.”
▪️ “The City has no interest in creating a livable city that would be worthy of a capital. The NCC is.”
