WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
π The Ontario Federation of Agriculture and l’Union des producteurs agricoles want the Alto high speed rail programme paused. At its annual general meeting last week, farmers voted to request governments pause the project until it can be guaranteed that agricultural land will not be affected.– Ottawa Construction News
βͺ The owners of Gibbs Honey apiary in Vankleek Hill say the Alto project is ‘sure to disrupt the life cycle of many species, including bees’.
β»οΈ Replacement recycling bins will now be delivered to homes, residents no longer need to pick them up. A few weeks ago, the new contractor for recycling in the city, Miller Waste Systems, said it would not deliver replacements for old bins unlike what the City used to do. The company has changed its mind. The company also reiterated that the black boxes are being phased out and all new boxes will be blue – although residents must still separate the recycling. – Dave Charbonneau at CTV
πͺ The Community Environmental Projects Grant Programme has $204,000 to award organizations interested in ‘undertaking small-scale, community-based initiatives that support an environmentally sustainable Ottawa’. Deadline to apply is April 10 and all projects must be completed by June 30, 2027. – Stittsville Central
