WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
π The major changes of OC Transpo’s ‘New Ways to Bus’ were based on inaccurate data, says the City’s Auditor General. Nathalie Gougeon said that the changes, which resulted in many complaints of longer trips, was based on data from 2023 and were ‘primarily driven by a desire to cut costs’. – Arthur White-Crummey at CBC
βοΈ A drag queen storytime event was cancelled by Mutchmor Public School in the Glebe and some are wondering who made the decision. An email to parents cancelling the event featuring drag queen Adrianna Exposée was signed by the principal and vice-principal, stating the event ‘raised questions about curricular alignment’. But some think it was a decision made by the provincially appointed administrators who are now running the Ottawa Carleton District School Board. – Gabrielle Huston at CBC
βͺ Two schools may have their streets closed in a pick-up/drop-off pilot project. Hopewell Avenue in front of Hopewell Avenue Public School and Osgoode Avenue in front of Francojeunesse Public School would be closed, creating a safe zone for kids.
π¨ It’s a culture that allows sexual misconduct in the Ottawa Police Service, not a few bad apples says Deputy Chief. Trish Ferguson says the Service is ‘not asking for people to simply trust the system. We have to show that we are going to make change’. – Adam Beauchemin at CTV
βͺ Executive directors of nine womens centres assisting rape victims and those fleeing abuse want to meet with police chief Eric Stubbs over sexual violence and harassment involving the Service’s members.
βͺ The annual Use of Force Report for 2025 showed that ‘Black and Middle Eastern residents were “over-represented” in police use of force incidents’.
βͺ The OC Transpo Special Constables Unit annual report says there were fewer crimes against people and OC Transpo property in 2025.
π Every week, @stromanker reads all the local grocery flyers and posts the deals on Ottawa Reddit. Here are some of his highlights this week: bacon ($2.88/375g at Metro), eggs ($3.49/12 pack at IGA), and salmon ($7.99/lb at Adonis). – /Ottawa
