😋 Instagram Food influencer Henry Monk House (@thebesteats613) wanted to put on his own food festival, one that was ‘fun and didn’t feel pretentious or stuffy’. Thus Best Fest Ottawa was born, and it's happening May 8 - 9 at the Aberdeen Pavillion, featuring East India Company, Killer Buns, Tredici, Beyond the Pale Brewing Company, Flora Hall Brewing, and Spark Beer.

⚡ City owned electricity utility Hydro Ottawa has partnered with FoodWorks Ottawa to give high-level skills and real-world experience to six young people facing barriers to traditional employment, in its industrial kitchen.

In Capital Eats, Ralf Joneikies was initially turned away by Tokyo Crispy because it was too busy. He was impressed but recommends eaters ‘stick with the fried foods’.

Road Trip: Mighty Fine Bakehouse will make and sell their next-level HCBs daily until Easter Sunday. If we're good, maybe they'll bake one more batch the following weekend. Don't chance it. Be there through Sunday April 5 between 9:30 am and 10:00 am to grab yours (it's a limit of 6 per person). (Arnprior)

You'll need to preorder your Nat’s Bread Company HCBs in advance. They’re six to a bag for $20.

Black Walnut Bakery sells HCB individually at the counter and in packs of six when you preorder. They recommend you eat them as is, with a cup of tea, for dessert, or even as French Toast (which sounds divine). (Cumberland)

True Loaf makes Brioche HCBs from Brioche, with cranberry and candied lemon and orange peel, and they're organic. (Check the web page for locations).

Almanac Grains makes stone-milled HCBs like our grandmothers would’ve made. They'll be gone after Sunday. Get them at the new Little Italy location or at the counter at City Centre.

For those who are disinclined to eat dried fruit, try the Not Cross Buns from Bread By Us. They're light, fluffy, finished with royal icing and orange blossom, and contain no dried fruit.
