Shevel has reached a personal milestone by completing her 1,000th crocheted blanket for donation to the cancer centre at the Ottawa Hospital General Campus.
After losing her daughter Kelly to cancer 25 years ago, Shevel created Project Comfort Crochet to comfort patients during their treatments.

ποΈ The Tewin project lives another day after City Council vote. Bay Ward councillor Theresa Kavanagh, who believes approving the giant new suburb in the rural southeast is a mistake, attempted to have Council reconsider the approval. However, the majority voted against discussing it and will let it lie until sometime in the future when the millions of dollars of water, sewer, and infrastructure must be dealt with. – Micah Petti in the Capital Current
πͺ§Gatineau transit workers are planning to strike next Monday. The union representing 50 mechanic supervisors and trainers are asking for better pay and job security. There may be disruptions and cancellations. – CBC
π· In appreciation of those residents who set up pre-authorizations to pay property taxes and water bills, the City will now charge them 55¢ for each payment. The City says it costs $0.74 per transaction to offer the service. If residents choose to not make it automated and pay when only when they get a bill, it’s free.– Josh Pringle at CTV
