WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
⛳ The City should buy the Kanata Lakes golf club to protect greenspace, says City Councillor. Kanata ward councillor Cathy Curry will bring up the possibility of acquiring the Kanata Golf and Country Club at Wednesday’s City Council meeting. Despite the current owners, Clublink, winning case after case in a bid to develop much of the land into houses, the City continues to oppose development on the golf course property. – Josh Pringle at CTV
↪ Kanata’s Beaverbrook neighbourhood will be studied for eligibility as a Heritage Conservation District. Beaverbrook, Kanata’s original neighbourhood, is chock full of mid-century modern homes built between 1964 and 1971.
🌉 Sixty-seven positions at the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum will be cut over the next three years. The job removals are part of the Federal government’s plan to reduce the number of people on the Federal payroll. The Canadian Museum of Nature, the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, the Canada Science and Technology Museum, and the National Arts Centre are all exempted from the cuts and are not expected to lose staff. – CBC
🏬 Ottawa may be on the list of new locations for a renewed Zeller’s. The company that bought all the Zeller’s intellectual property is satisfied how its single relaunched store has performed in Edmonton and is planning more. The story doesn’t say Ottawa is definitely on the list, but a retail expert muses that it would be ‘fair to assume that Ottawa would be one of those markets’. – Marissa Galko in the Ottawa Business Journal
🚨 The Province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called to explore why the Ottawa Police Service left a scene where a man was found dead. On Friday night, Ottawa police were called about a minivan that had rolled over near Bank Street and Morningside Avenue. Having no success in reaching the registered owner of the van, the police then left. The next morning, an Ottawa police officer returned and found a man dead in the snow. – Rachel Morgan at CityNews

Commentary
▪️ “He is in thrall to developers.”
▪️ “After Lansdowne 2.0 and his apparent personal vendetta against biking and closing Queen Elizabeth Drive for active use in the summer, absolutely not.”
▪️ “I had high hopes for Sutcliffe, but when [he] voted yes on Landsdowne, it is obvious he is just another Watson. He also had the chance to save the speed cameras by invoking his special powers that Ford gave him but he didn’t.”
▪️ “He’s on the right track.”
▪️ “Our current mayor has been a huge disappointment. Look at Byward - once the most vibrant part of the city, now a slum. I hate going down there now. Nothing has gotten better under his watch.”
▪️ “It’s been one bad decision after another by Mark Sutcliffe. New ways to bus, Lansdowne 2.0, Tewin ... time for a change.”
▪️ “Didn’t vote for him before because I knew he would fuck up OCTranspo.”
▪️ “Can’t get rid of him fast enough.”
▪️ “Not a chance.”
▪️ “He didn’t get my vote the first time.”
▪️ “Didn’t vote for him the first time, and he’s shown I was right not to, so certainly wouldn’t give him a second chance ”
▪️ “I didn’t even read your other options. Just no. What a disaster.”
▪️ “Mark has been great for the City.”
▪️ “I’m not a fan. At a very basic level, too many questionable policies, abysmal funding choices and the City’s population is suffering as a result. The time for radical change in now!”
▪️ “I really need to know more about who is running and on what they are going to do for our city first before making a decision.”
▪️ “He has accomplished nothing of consequence in his term as Mayor. Time for change!”
▪️ “RTO and Lansdowne 2.0 cost him any chance of my vote. (5500 is not enough).”
▪️ “I’ll never vote for someone who boast[s] about keeping the tax low, especially when the City can’t deliver services worthy of a G7 country capital.”
▪️ “Too developer friendly. Does not push back hard enough on bad provincial decisions such as abolishing speed cameras. Has no exciting vision for Ottawa.”
▪️ “He’s a heck of a lot better than Jim Watson.”
▪️ “I didn’t vote for him the first time, I’m certainly not going to be voting to re-elect him.”
▪️ “He is the worst. I will actively campaign AGAINST his reëlection.”
▪️ “Poor decision after poor decision. No thank you.”
▪️ “Didn’t vote for him last time and he has done nothing to make me think that I should have done so.”
