WHAT’S GOING ON AT CITY HALL

City Council
Wednesday, March 11 at 10:00 am

Agenda

Whose flag is flying at City Hall today? None

City Hall flies the flag of embassies and high commissions on their national days.

WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT

🏫 In another reversal, the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board has reopened kindergarten registration at four alternative schools. The Board had previously said that it was phasing out its alternative programme and thus would not be accepting new students at Regina Street, Riverview, Lady Evelyn, and Churchill schools. Now, they are.– CBC

💧 The City says it will know – and will tell you – if you have a possible plumbing leak. Homeowners will first need to register a My Service Ottawa account with the City, where water usage will be automatically monitored. If an unusal amount of water is seen continuously over seven days, the City will send an email. – William Eltherington at CTV

🛶 The Ottawa Valley chapter of Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society is looking for youth between the ages of 18 and 30. Participants in Nature for Everyone, Everywhere! will experience the outdoors through a wilderness expedition, hands-on workshops and mentoring, and a three day canoe trip on the Dumoine River (transportation, equipment and food provided). There is no charge. – Green Living Ottawa     Apply Here

🎛️ If you have anything to do with the music business, The Ottawa Music Industry Coalition wants your opinion in its survey. Results of the survey will help develop the City’s music strategy. – Greggory Clark at Apt 613     Take the Survey Here

THE DAILY POLL

Do you pack your own lunch?

🔘 Yes, it’s cheaper and tastier

🔘 No, going out for lunch is its own reward

🔘 I work from home / retired / don’t work and lunch is just another chore

🔘 It’s the only way I get to show off my 1970s lunch box collection

🔘 I wish I could remember to do that

  • Previously in ottawan polls:

  • We asked, ‘Is this it? Is it Spring now?’

    • 36% No, this weather tricks you into dropping your guard. It’ll get worse.

    • 6% Yes, I have already had my snow tires removed. Why?

    • 15% I’m hoping for a few more snowfalls

    • 6% Ottawa weather is so predictable, the next few weeks will be gorgeous

    • 37% Did you not listen to our groundhog, emu, and cat betters? They said six more weeks of winter.

      Commentary

▪️ You can never trust the weather in March. Don't let your guard down or your hopes up!

▪️ A few years back we had 50cm of snow in the middle of March!

▪️ We wait to take off snow tires. Probably around April 15-20th. It is NOT really Spring yet.

▪️ Next week’s forecast is for subzero highs again. First official day of spring isn’t until later this month, and even then, it’ll probably snow in April.

▪️ Too early for spring. Ask me again in 2-3 weeks.

▪️ I live in the moment and take it one day at a time. This kinda stresses some people around me but I am never disappointed 😊

▪️ Keep getting fooled year after year!

▪️ Ottawa is where the cold goes when everywhere else is doing global warming! 🥶

▪️ Today, Monday March 9th, temperature in Ottawa was Celsius wooow that’s it folks summer's over ...

▪️ Our groundhog said early spring, not six more weeks. Willie for the WIN! (chew on it Sam)

▪️ A friend always says ‘April Fools’ when the inevitable snow-storm/freeze happens in that month.

▪️ The weather in March is always all over the map! Case in point sunny & 14 degrees today in Ottawa and a freezing rain storm and extreme weather event predicted two days later with people being told to stay home!

▪️ Not falling for that old trick ... there will be snow before the end of March ...

▪️ Two more significant snow falls.

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

This is an incredible piece of work by cyclist José Albornoz. Ottawa By Bike is the site Albornoz wanted for himself, ‘Each route has photos, videos, and tips — the kind of stuff you'd want to know before heading out. Where to stop for coffee, which parts are gravel, where the big hill is’.
