WHAT OTTAWA IS TALKING ABOUT
💥 The garden that grows food for the Barrhaven food bank garden has been raided twice. The thieves absconded with ripe tomatoes, peppers, and beans. Because of the neatness of the crime scene, gardeners do not believe it was an animal and that a car would have been needed to take that quantity of vegtables. The Barrhaven Food Cupboard regularly helps 700 families. – Aya Dufour at CBC Donations
🪩 The Night Mayor has launched the Ottawa at Night website to help build awareness for the city’s nightlife. For some reason it does not provide event listings, but it does catalogue all the music, film, theatre, and comedy venues.
However, in a shameful oversight, Ottawa at Night also highlights some of the websites that do provide event info in the city, but omits the ottawan. – City of Ottawa
🎾 Gabriela Dabrowski and her New Zealand partner Erin Routliffe have made it to the US Open women’s doubles semi-finals. They will next meet the winner of the quarter final between Italy’s Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini and the team of Asia Muhammad of the United States and Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands. – The Canadian Press
🔇 The Ottawa Public Library will run a series of Sensory Storytimes at seven different branches. Sensory Storytime is regular storytime for children aged 18 months to 6 years and their caregivers, but with reduced stimulation including: dimmed lighting, sensory toys, and smaller group sizes. Some are bilingual. The first Sensory Storytime is this Saturday at the Ruth E Dickinson branch. – City of Ottawa
THE DAILY POLL
It’s pumpkin spice season, isn’t it?
▪️ “Plus data on my phone.”
▪️ “Are you doing covert market research for Rogers?”
— No, if we ever did something for a third party we would tell you upfront. We were just curious about what people value. Here at ottawan HQ, we feed our office cat Wigmore the cheap kibble so we can pay for the highest speed broadband you can get, despite the power going out everytime there is a stiff breeze. – the ottawan
▪️ “Bell fibre. 1.5Gb”
▪️ “Get good performance from Bell’s fibe Internet link although the price tends to increase every year.”
▪️ “I never thought of cable internet (eg Rogers) as broadband, but a cursory internet search shows you are correct to not have a separate option. But by that logic, fibre to the home (FTTH) is apparently also broadband.”
