QUOTE
“

It was pretty crazy how we were able to have such an impact on our community. We were only five and seven at the time
– Eliza Andrew reflecting on how she and her sister Adela were wrapped up in ‘the most Ottawa story of all time’.
Ten years ago this summer, the two were told to pack up their lemonade stand by a National Capital Commission junior conservation officer for lack of a permit.
The resulting bureaucracy-gone-crazy firestorm ended with an apology from the Commission and a young entrepreneurs programme for kids five to 17.
The sisters say they now use the story on their CVs.

β‘ The City has launched a dedicated microsite to help residents recover from the Canada Day storm.
For storm-related waste: the three item limit is waived for their next garbage day.
Fallen trees: Call 311 to report fallen trees on City property. However, unlike the 2022 Derecho, the City is leaving fallen trees on private property to the homeowners.
Property tax: The City may ‘cancel, reduce or refund part of the property taxes’ on storm damaged property. Details here.
As of today, these roads are closed:
- Holly Acres Road southbound at Highway 417 eastbound off-ramp
- March Valley Road between Klondike Road and Cameron Harvey Drive
- Off-ramp from 417 westbound to Pinecrest/Greenbank (IC 129 North/South)
- Hanson Side Road/Dark's Side Road between Dominion Spring Road and 12th Concessions South (Pakenham)
- Corkstown Road between March Road and Moodie Drive
- Moodie Drive between Fallowfield Road and Hunt Club Road

THE DAILY POLL
Will Canada win tomorrow’s match against Morocco?
βͺοΈ “Wow have to say that was a tough choice.”
βͺοΈ “My theory is that you can always get warm by piling on clothes or blankets, depending whether you’re inside or out.”
βͺοΈ “To tolerate regular OC Transpo service, it would have to happen first ...”
βͺοΈ “Was the question not meant to be ‘irregular’ transit service? ;)”
βͺοΈ “The more you persist in being in air conditioned environments (car, home, work) the harder it is to adapt to heat. Try being outside at least every day and you will.find the heat bothers you less in time. Stay hydrated, wear cool fabrics like cotton and linen.”
βͺοΈ “I am very grateful to live on the top of a hill.”
βͺοΈ “Alas, regular OC Transpo service is the only option in the list that’s actually fictional.”
βͺοΈ “As long as I can add additional warm layers, I’m good.”
βͺοΈ “Have been expecting sub-standard service for many years now and OCTranspo doesn’t disappoint – they provide sub-standard service and especially so with the LRT!”

BUT, ONE MORE THING ...
In the Ottawa Citizen, Nicholas Kohler tries to answer the question ‘What’s behind the boarded-up stretch of Bank Street?’.
The four buildings taking up the eastern side of Bank between Nepean and Lisgar streets was purchased in 2022, with residents and businesses – including Wallack's Art Supplies and Framing – evicted. Since then, they have all be left empty.
